Scuba diving certification has different levels based on how long and how deep you want to dive. Let us look at the most common ones and how long does it take to get scuba certified.

Open Water Diver

Take this course, and you can dive up to 18 meters (60 feet) deep with a buddy who has the same or higher certification.
You have to be at least 10 years old to enroll.
It usually takes 3 to 5 days to complete if you do it full-time (about 6 hours per day).
You will learn scuba diving theory, practice skills in a pool or confined water, and do four open-water dives in the ocean or a lake.

Advanced Open Water Diver

Advanced Open Water Diver
This scuba certification allows you to dive up to 30 meters (100 feet) deep with a buddy with the same or higher certification.
You need to be at least 12 years old and have an Open Water Diver certification to enroll in this course
This course usually takes 2 to 3 days to complete if you do it full-time.
During the advanced open water diver course, you will do five adventure dives, each focusing on a different aspect of scuba diving, such as deep diving, navigation, night diving, wreck diving, or photography.

Rescue Diver

Once you get to this level, you will learn how to prevent and manage any problems that might happen while diving.

This course allows you to dive up to 40 meters (130 feet) deep with a buddy with the same or higher certification.
You must be at least 12 years old and have an Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
You also need to have a first aid and CPR course to enroll in this course
This course usually takes 3 to 4 days to complete if you do it full-time.
During this course, you will learn how to recognize and respond to common diving emergencies, such as panic, out of air, entanglement, injury, or unconsciousness.

Master Scuba Diver

Master Scuba Diver

This is the highest level of recreational scuba certification and recognition of your experience and expertise. It is not a course per se but a rating you can achieve by completing five specialty courses (such as deep diver, nitrox diver, drift diver, etc.) and logging at least 50 dives.

You must be at least 15 years old and have a Rescue Diver certification to apply for this rating.
This rating does not have a fixed duration, depending on how many specialty courses you choose and how often you dive. It is gonna take some time to reach this goal, as each specialty course usually takes 1 to 2 days to finish, and you need to log at least 50 dives. So, you are looking at spending at least a few months working towards it.
